Dossier De Ja Vu

Since our new agency requires our dossier documents to have 2 notarized originals and 5 copies of each document and we only had one original from our previous agency, we decided to get them done again. The reasoning behind having 2 originals is sound, it's just too bad we didn't know when we were getting them.

Here's what we need and an update on each:

Birth Certificates - 7 copies each person (no originals required) - Just need to copy
Marriage License - 7 copies (no originals required) - Just need to copy

Medical Exam Letter - 2 notarized originals and 5 copies each person - Troy had 2 originals from his doctor. Troy typed up my medical letter for my doctor to sign (have to have him run downstairs and sign in front of the notary at the credit union) I had to make another official appointment for next Wednesday to get this done. Hopefully goes smoothly this time as last time he put the wrong date and I had to do it again. Even though I explained our situation and told them I just needed the same letter signed with a more recent date, they made it seem like it was quite an inconvenience....I am paying for the appointment and the notary. Oh well, we'll get it done

Employment & Salary Verification Letters - Troy has those typed up and we'll have to get them notarized at work this week

Financial Statement - Retyped and ready to be notarized. I will have to meet Troy at Barr Systems to have both of our signatures notarized.

Passport Copy - Troy did a great job of getting a very clear copy of our passports onto the required forms. We will have to sign them and get them notarized at Barr Systems.

Police Clearance - I contacted the Gainesville Police Department to see if they could redo our criminal background checks and send us two notarized originals each. I promised we had not committed any crimes since April, but they will have to run the checks again. After explaining our story to a very nice woman, she promised to make sure they got done and took all the necessary personal details over the phone. Should have those in 5-7 business days.

With Eyes Wide Open Adoption Education Certificate - 20 chapters and test completed. Certificate received. Just need to copy.

Finally, Immigration Approval - Hopefully, our fingerprints took clearly at the FBI this morning and it won't be long before we have that I-171 in our hands declaring us ok to parent.

So, we did make some progress today and hopefully can get all the documents (except the I-171) ready to go in the next 2 weeks.

I am glad to see this blog.I have been asking a lot of people what exactly do you have to have together for something like that and no one has been able to tell me. Now I know :)

Yes, in all the boring detail glory :) That is for the dossier. Our original documents for the homestudy counted 27 for each of us. Thank God we don't have to do that again! By now we should have proved we are not criminally insane people and could reasonably raise a child. We'll see what the FBI has to say :)

Wow that's a lot. Seems like we didn't have to have alllllll those copies for our homestudy.

The dossier extra originals makes sense, as if one of our papers gets lost in Taiwan, they can just send a replacement rather than waiting on us to get it done again. Don't know about the 5 copies besides....
