Can you Spare a Square?

We have decided to make a quilt for Kaylee. It is known as the Bai Jia Bei (100 Wishes Quilt). It is a Chinese tradition to welcome and celebrate life. The quilt is made of fabric from family and friends who donate the fabric along with wishes for the child. It is said that the luck, energy and good wishes from all of the families and friends who contributed the fabric surrounds the child when she is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.

I have thought about doing this for some time, but wasn’t sure how many squares we could get. Then this weekend we received an article from the Chicago Tribune from Aunt Terri about an adoptive Mother making her 100 Wishes Quilt and she wanted to know where to send her square. So we’re going to do this! Hopefully between family, friends and church members we can get our 100 squares.

We’re hoping you will all want to participate and, if so, read on:
You will send us 2 things - a patch of cloth and a written wish. Most of the cloth will go towards making the quilt and a teeny piece will go into a scrapbook with the wish for Kaylee.

FABRIC: One 8"x8" square of cotton cloth. It can be new or "used and meaningful" fabric. (Please wash the material before you cut it so it won't fray or bleed.)

WISH: This is the fun part. Send us a 3"x5" or 4"x6" card (or larger if you wish) with a good wish for Kaylee and a scrap of your fabric (glued to the paper). Your wish can be simple or elaborate, handwritten or typed. It can be a prayer, something you wrote or a favorite Bible Verse, poem, lyric, or quote. Your wish can be deep and thought-provoking or something as simple and fun as a wish for a lifetime of great hair days. Please remember to sign your wish.
One day Kaylee will be able to look back at all of the wishes and prayers that were sent while we waited for her arrival.
